Our Cows
At 515 Ranch, we take pride in raising healthy, grass-fed cows in a nurturing, low-stress environment. Our commitment to natural farming practices means our cattle are always free from hormones and antibiotics. Our herd grazes on native grass and is supplemented with sorghum, sudan, and wheat that we grow, cut, and bale into hay ourselves. We ride through and check on our herd regularly, keeping them well-exposed to and gentle around humans. By prioritizing their health and well-being every step of the way, we're able to raise cattle you can feel good about feeding your family.
Why Brangus?
At 515 Ranch, we raise Brangus cattle — a registered breed bred to a consistent 5/8 Angus, 3/8 Brahman ratio — because they're built for our Texas climate. The Brahman influence gives our herd excellent heat and humidity tolerance, along with strong resistance to insects and disease, meaning less stress on the animal and a healthier life overall. That matters here, where summers are long and hot. Some assume this cross comes at the cost of meat quality, but research, including Texas A&M carcass studies, has shown Brangus beef can match or even exceed Angus in tenderness, while still delivering the rich marbling and flavor Angus is known for. For us, Brangus means the best of both worlds: cattle that thrive in our environment and beef that doesn't compromise on quality. Not to mention - we love those adorable ears!
Our Bulls
Our bulls are the foundation of the 515 Ranch herd, playing a crucial role in maintaining its health and vitality. We raise our own, sourced from registered Brangus Ultrablack bulls out of Branch Ranch in Louisiana, as well as registered Liscar Angus bulls, also out of Louisiana. Every bull is raised to be gentle and easy to handle. For heifer retention, we breed our registered Liscar Angus bulls to our heifers in their first year, helping ensure calving ease and setting up the next generation of our herd for success.
